Duplika is a family-run hosting provider in Buenos Aires that has spent 21 years building the service its founder couldn’t find as a customer. Its VPS plans were already fully managed, but CloudLinux and Imunify360 were optional add-ons, and customers who skipped them got a rougher service that was harder to keep promises on. So Duplika made the bundle standard on every plan.
- Standardized CloudLinux and Imunify360 on every VPS plan, backed by 12+ years running the stack on shared hosting
- Went live across all plans in under a month: a website update, WHMCS billing, and new provisioning processes
- Cut complaints tied to service issues and freed the team for the human support Duplika is known for
The service he wished he’d received
Duplika didn’t start as a business plan. In January 2005, Juan Manuel Zolezzi Volpi was maintaining a handful of affiliate sites on Drupal, and the traffic and the server bills kept growing. He tried dozens of hosting companies, from the biggest names to the newcomers of that era. The migrations were complicated, and none of the providers quite fit. So he leased a dedicated server and began offering the hosting he would have liked to receive himself.
Twenty-one years later, Duplika is still family-run and still serving the Spanish-speaking market from Buenos Aires. The platform mix has moved with the web: more than 90% of the sites Duplika hosts today run WordPress, on shared and VPS plans alike, while the Drupal roots survive in a few large Drupal sites that remain on its servers.
Managed VPS, with a catch
Customers rarely leave Duplika’s shared hosting for performance reasons. CloudLinux keeps those plans running well. A move to VPS usually happens when a customer needs a specific configuration, or when a site’s traffic or importance justifies a server of its own. What those customers want is continuity: the same unified, looked-after experience they already have, on their own server.
For years there was a catch. The VPS plans were fully managed, but CloudLinux and Imunify360 were optional add-ons, and a customer could simply skip them. Sites on those servers ran without CloudLinux’s isolation and stability controls, and without Imunify360’s automated protection. That showed. The service had noticeable gaps, and Duplika’s own administration and uptime guarantees became harder to keep.
The decision to make the bundle standard had no dramatic trigger: no incident, no competitive scare. Duplika is a small team in which everyone has a direct stake in how well the services run, and the confidence came from a long track record. CloudLinux and Imunify360 had been running on Duplika’s shared hosting servers for more than 12 years.
“We only offer managed VPS servers,” says Zolezzi Volpi. “The bundle was a great opportunity to add CloudLinux and Imunify360 by default.”
The rollout took less than a month from decision to live: updating the website, the billing in WHMCS, and the provisioning process for new servers. Working with CloudLinux held no surprises either. After 21 years and dozens of providers, Zolezzi Volpi says the real test of a vendor’s support is not the casual question but the emergency, when you need fast help from a knowledgeable person, even when the issue isn’t strictly the vendor’s own service. CloudLinux has passed that test for Duplika more than once, from DDoS attacks to random bugs.
The clearest before-and-after in Duplika’s story is security, and it starts well before the bundle. In the early days the team relied on ConfigServer Firewall (CSF), which generated hundreds of unnecessary blocks that hit Duplika’s customers and their customers in turn, while real protection against increasingly sophisticated attacks stayed limited. Blocked customers could unblock themselves through WHMCS. It was still a poor experience on both sides. So when Imunify360 opened its beta almost a decade ago, Duplika tested it, adopted it, and dropped CSF for good.
The gap was on VPS. Protection was only as universal as the opt-in, and plans without the add-ons kept producing the old kind of trouble. Making CloudLinux and Imunify360 standard across every VPS plan closed that gap, and complaints tied to service issues dropped considerably.
“Imunify360 was key. CSF used to generate hundreds of unnecessary blocks, for our customers and for their customers, with very limited protection against increasingly sophisticated attacks.” — Juan Manuel Zolezzi Volpi, CEO, Duplika
At Duplika there is no support desk. Everyone on the team answers tickets personally, the way it has been since 2005, because that is how you understand the real problems and find concrete solutions. The company has watched much of the industry rush support automation and frustrate customers who just want to reach a human being, and it has chosen to compete on the opposite.
With fewer complaints to chase since the bundle became standard, the team gets more of its time back for exactly that kind of support. The tools handle the infrastructure and the security. The people handle the people.
“Having the best tools available, and making sure we do everything in terms of hardware, data center choice, support and stability, allows us to have more time to provide human support.” — Juan Manuel Zolezzi Volpi, CEO, Duplika
The relationship with the stack is still evolving. Duplika’s interest has been growing in AccelerateWP and MAx Cache, CloudLinux’s WordPress optimization and caching tools. The draw is partly to offer object cache properly, and partly to cut down on the extra complexity of juggling separate caching tools across their customer base.
Duplika made CloudLinux and Imunify360 the default on every VPS plan. Backed by more than a decade of proven stability, it got fewer complaints and more time for human support in return.
